The Triticum black wisp, or Triticum dicoccum, as is its scientific Latin name, is a species of Triticum or wheat plant. This variety is mostly grown in Turkey, Syria and Ethiopia, but our stock is sown, grown, harvested and dried in the Netherlands. Also known as Emmer Wheat, the black wisp version has large ears that are tinted naturally in black, thus making the stems beautifully contrasting, the white ears with the black wisps . The lighter shades of Statice or poppy (Papaver) contrast brilliantly. It also forms a great combination with, for example, Helichrysum or Bidens/Carthamus (safflower). There are so many possibilities for designs and contrasting colours and forms with these natural stems.
